Job Description


  • The role reports to the Head of Investments and is supported by analysts in Investment Operations and Investment Research. In performing this role, the Portfolio Manager will operate under guidelines and limits set by PAL’s management and the Investment and Risk Committee of the Board.
  • Funds managed by PAL Pensions are broadly diversified across asset classes, industry sectors, and investment horizon/objectives; the funds are invested primarily in public and private debt and equity securities.
  • The wide range of products supported results in an extensive mix of investment and asset / liability management challenges for the Portfolio Manager.
  • The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the strategic and tactical management of all investment funds managed by Pension Alliance Limited.
  • PAL Emphasizes a deep understanding of financial markets, local asset classes and regulatory investment framework. The portfolio manager is expected to develop strategic and tactical asset allocation strategies in line with stated investment objectives of our various funds and consistently apply a disciplined risk management framework

Description: The Portfolio Manager’s responsibilities include


  • Oversee the daily management of the fund portfolios consistent with their respective investment objectives
  • Manage the NNPC superannuation fund portfolio in line with fund owner’s defined policy
  • Make investment decisions and optimize structure of all portfolios to achieve target returns and minimize risk and volatility
  • Identify, develop and implement new investment opportunities and trading ideas across asset classes
  • Explore, develop and implement equity and fixed income trading strategies to effectively hedge and optimize portfolio returns
  • Monitor capital market developments and conduct investment related research in order to develop and support investment thesis
  • Perform due diligence and exploratory analysis/research in emerging asset classes (Real Estate, Private Equity, Infrastructure etc.)
  • Develop financial and quantitative models to measure investment decisions including relative value analysis, risk analysis and performance  measurement
  • Collaborate with relevant business units to support strategic initiatives; fund pricing, evaluating new transactions, company capital and reserve management etc.
  • Participate in Management Investment Committee and Board Investment Strategy Committee meeting


  • Support the CEO in developing research material and database for industry advocacy work and presentations to external parties
  • Undertake special projects to support PAL’s involvement in the Pension Operators Association of Nigeria (PENOP) Technical Committee and the CFA Society of Nigeria.
  • Prepare thematic investment documents, including the annual investment stretgy document, investment policy statements and frameworks for third-party funds etc.
  • Mentor, train and develop younger members of the investment team to facilitate efficient depth and succession planning on the team
  • Collaborate with Research unit to ensure Research framework and timetable adequately supports the objectives and needs of the portfolio management team

  • Strong quantitative, analytical and modeling skills
  • Effective communicator, coordinator and thought-partner; comfortable and effective partnering with senior level executive team and external parties with experience presenting market commentary, investment ideas and results
  • Open-minded, innovative, and strategic thinker
  • Competence and ability to assume leadership of the department in the absence of the head 
  • Preferred candidates will have a B.SC and MBA or relevant Master’s Degree and CFA designation or equivalent work experience.
